Boston Center for the Arts is a cluster of performance, studio, and exhibition spaces in the South End. It is most useful when something is on: small theatre, contemporary art, open studios, or the sort of local event that gives the neighbourhood more bite than its tidy brick streets suggest.
Check the calendar before crossing town. With the right show, it is one of the better ways to see Boston's working arts scene rather than only its museums and historic sites.
