Boston's Old City Hall is a handsome Second Empire building completed in 1865 and used as the city's municipal headquarters until 1969. Unlike the later modernist City Hall at Government Center, this one is all mansard roof, carved stone, and 19th-century civic confidence.
The building is now used for offices and restaurants, so most visitors see it from the outside. It is still worth a deliberate pause while walking between King's Chapel, the Old South Meeting House, and the Old State House.
