The Massachusetts State House crowns Beacon Hill with one of Boston's most recognisable domes. The building dates to the late 18th century, and its gilded dome is visible from across the Common and the Charles River.
It is an easy stop on the Freedom Trail or a Beacon Hill walk. Even if you do not go inside, the approach from Boston Common gives a strong sense of the city's political history.
