Adjacent to the Boston Common, the Public Garden is a slightly more formal greenspace with lush plantings, majestic trees, ornate fountains, and impressive statues. Founded in 1837, it is a quiet oasis in the middle of the city.
The main attraction is the lagoon with the famous Swan Boats, a 130-year-old tradition of leisurely cruises on swan-shaped paddleboats enjoyed by young and old alike. The garden is carefully maintained and located between Arlington and Charles streets, at the end of the Newbury Street shopping district. The easiest T access is via Arlington on the Green Line.
