Fort Warren is the main historic sight on Georges Island in Boston Harbor. The granite fort was begun in the 1840s to defend the harbor, then used for training, patrol, and as a Civil War prison. Guided tours explain the fort's military history, but the harbor views and open parade ground are reason enough to make the ferry trip.
