A floating museum on the Fort Point Channel built around two replicas of the Boston Tea Party ships, the Beaver and the Eleanor, with a smaller replica of the Dartmouth alongside. Actors in colonial costume run the visit: you join a town meeting in a recreation of Old South Meeting House, vote on dumping the tea, then march out to the ships and chuck a balsa-wood crate of tea over the side.
It is unapologetically theatrical, more living-history than scholarly, but the costuming is good and the script gets the main points across. Inside are two of the only three known crates of original 1773 tea — one fished from the harbor that night by a Boston schoolboy, one purchased years later. A short film at the end ties the events to the broader Revolution.
The museum is a short walk from South Station, opposite the Children's Museum across the channel. Good for families with school-age kids who are too old for the aquarium and not yet ready for the MFA.
