Gustavo Capanema Palace is one of Rio's key modernist buildings, designed for the former Ministry of Education and Health with input from Le Corbusier and a team of Brazilian architects. Its pilotis, sun-breakers and public art made it a model for modern architecture in the tropics.
The building is a serious stop for architecture travellers, even if you only see it from outside while exploring Centro. It pairs naturally with the Biblioteca Nacional, Teatro Municipal and other civic landmarks nearby.
