The Dawki River — known on the Indian side as the Umngot — flows out of the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya into Bangladesh, and its lower stretches near Jaflong have water so clear that boats appear to float on air over the visible riverbed. Bangladeshi visitors can view this Indian stretch across the border from the Tamabil checkpoint area without crossing.
Take a small boat ride along the Bangladeshi side of the border zone for the closest view; Indian boats are visible drifting on the clearer waters upstream. Boat operators can arrange a combined Jaflong-Tamabil-Dawki view trip in a single morning. The contrast with the heavily quarried Piyain River at Jaflong is striking.
