Shah Paran Dargah

Shah Paran was the nephew and one of the 360 disciples of Shah Jalal, and his shrine, about 7 km east of the city centre, is the second major dargah of Sylhet. The complex is smaller and quieter than the main dargah, set against a backdrop of paddy fields and palm trees, with a sense of calm largely absent from its more famous cousin.

The shrine attracts a steady flow of local pilgrims, especially on Thursday evenings. The route to the dargah passes through a string of villages and tea-trading hamlets — a pleasant ride that also gives a glimpse of life on the city's edge. Dress modestly; non-Muslims are welcome in the outer courtyards.
