Madani Square (locally Madani Chattar) is a small monument on Nayasarak Road built to commemorate Sayyid Hussain Ahmad Madani, an Indian Muslim scholar who spent years in Sylhet preaching and teaching. The square itself is little more than a roundabout, but it is a central reference point in the modern city and a common meeting spot.
The surrounding area has many of the city's restaurants and the small shops that sell traditional Sylheti gifts: shitalpati mats, cane baskets, and Manipuri textiles. The square fills with vendors and pedestrians in the evenings.
