Gahvareh Did is a hilltop viewpoint above Shiraz, reached by a long climb of roughly 800 steps from the northern side of the city. A stone lookout marks the spot where a guard tower is said to have stood, but the reason to come is the broad view back over Shiraz and the surrounding mountains.
Go early or late for cooler air and clearer light. On smoggy days the view can be muted, but the climb still gives a good sense of how Shiraz sits in its valley.
