The Pars Museum occupies the Kolah Farangi — the "European Hat" — an octagonal pavilion built by Karim Khan in the 1760s as the centrepiece of his private Nazar Garden. The little building has eight sides, painted plaster vaulting, and walls covered in detailed Zand-era frescoes showing scenes of court life, hunting, and battles.
The collection inside is modest but well chosen: Zand-period swords, jewellery, illuminated Qurans, and a few Karim Khan personal effects, including the tombstone over his original burial place. (His body was later disinterred by the Qajars in an act of dynastic vindictiveness.) The surrounding garden, with its tall cypresses and small reflecting pool, is a pleasant place to sit. Half an hour is enough.
