Myeongdong

Myeongdong is Seoul's neon-drenched shopping heart, a dense grid of streets packed with K-beauty stores, fashion outlets, and street food vendors hawking everything from egg bread to giant tornado potatoes. It's intense, loud, and unapologetically commercial, but that's the point — this is Korean consumer culture at full volume. The flagship stores of Innisfree, Etude House, and Nature Republic sit next to international brands, and the prices are genuinely good. Myeongdong Cathedral, a red-brick Gothic church from 1898, provides unexpected calm above the commercial chaos and played a significant role in South Korea's democratization movement. The street food is excellent and cheap — try hotteok, tteokbokki, and lobster tail pastries from the vendors lining the main drag. Best experienced after dark when the signs blaze and the crowds peak.
