Seoul Central Mosque

Korea's first and largest mosque, whose minarets crown the multicultural hillside above Itaewon

Opened in 1976 on a hill above Itaewon, the Seoul Central Mosque was the first purpose-built mosque in Korea and remains the largest. Its white facade, twin minarets, and arched prayer hall give the neighbourhood its most distinctive skyline, and the surrounding lanes — sometimes called "Muslim Street" — are lined with halal restaurants, Turkish kebab stands, spice shops, and bakeries serving the city's Muslim community and visitors.

Non-Muslims are welcome to visit outside prayer times if dressed modestly. Even if you don't go inside, the climb up Usadan-ro is one of the more interesting walks in Itaewon, threading through one of Seoul's most genuinely multicultural quarters.
