Hıdırlık Tower

Hıdırlık Tower sits at the southern tip of the Kaleiçi peninsula, where the old city walls meet the cliff edge above the Mediterranean. The squat, sturdy Roman-era tower is surrounded by Karaalioğlu Park, a long clifftop garden with dramatic views down to the sea and west along the coast towards the Taurus Mountains.

The tower itself is closed to visitors, but the park around it is one of the best places in Antalya to sit in the shade and watch the light change over the water. The park is particularly popular in the early evening when locals walk the cliff promenade.

A story
The Hıdırlık Tower's original purpose has been debated for centuries — Roman lighthouse, tomb, watchtower, or some combination of all three. The lower square section is Roman (probably 2nd century CE), while the upper round part is Byzantine. No inscription has been found to settle the question.
