A small well down a lane off Phan Chu Trinh, said to date from the Cham period over a thousand years ago. The local claim is that cao lau noodles — Hoi An's signature dish — can only be made with water drawn from this specific well. Whether that is literally true or a good story, the well is still in use and still draws the curious. Easy to miss; look for the sign off the main street. A two-minute stop on the way between the market and the assembly halls.
