Japanese Covered Bridge

17th-century covered bridge, emblem of Hoi An

A small arched bridge built by the Japanese merchant community in the early 17th century, connecting the Japanese and Chinese quarters of the old trading town. The bridge is covered and has a small temple shrine attached to one end. It appears on the 20,000 dong note and has become the emblem of Hoi An.
