Thurston Gardens

Fiji's national botanical garden, laid out in 1881 on land cleared from the colonial Government House grounds. The gardens are small but well planted — palms, ferns, frangipani, fig trees, a tortoise enclosure, and an ornamental pond — and they make a welcome bit of shade after the heat of Victoria Parade.

The Fiji Museum sits at the southern end of the gardens and is a natural pairing with a walk through. Free entry; gates close at dusk.
