Albert Park

The big green rectangle between Victoria Parade and Queen Elizabeth Drive, named after Queen Victoria's consort and at the heart of colonial Suva. Cricket and rugby are played here on Saturdays; school children run laps in the early evening; on big national occasions it is the natural gathering place.

The park is flanked by the Grand Pacific Hotel on one side and the Government Buildings on the other, which together give you the entire colonial-era set piece in a single view.

A story
In 1928 Charles Kingsford Smith landed the Southern Cross on the lawn here at the end of the first ever flight across the Pacific from California — the trees at the western end of the park were cut down to clear a runway.
