The vast daily open-air market on Piazza della Repubblica, on the northern edge of the historic centre. Seven hundred stalls fan out across the square in a clear pecking order: fish on one corner, meat and cheese under the iron sheds, fruit and vegetables in the centre, clothes and household goods on the far side.
The market starts at 6 a.m. and finishes at 2 p.m. (a couple of stalls keep going into the afternoon). Saturday is the biggest day — most of Turin shops here at the weekend — and is also when the surrounding streets host the Gran Balon antique market on the second Sunday of the month. A genuine slice of the city, very far from a tourist experience.
