Mežaparks is a leafy northern district of Riga built around forest parkland and early 20th-century villas. It is best explored slowly, with quiet residential streets, restored wooden houses, and paths leading into the park.
The area was once a summer retreat for Riga's prewar elite. Many houses declined during the Soviet period, but restoration has brought back much of the district's garden-suburb character.
