Riga Castle stands on the bank of the Daugava at the edge of the old town. It is one of Latvia's main medieval castles and now serves as the residence of the Latvian president.
Parts of the castle have housed museum collections, so check current access before going. Even when interiors are limited, the riverside setting makes it an easy landmark to include on an old-town walk.
