Āgenskalns is one of Pārdaugava's best areas for seeing Riga's surviving wooden houses. The most rewarding streets around Nometņu, Slokas, Eduarda Smiļģa, and Talsu keep an unusual concentration of 18th- and 19th-century timber buildings.
Come for a slow walk rather than a single landmark; the appeal is the texture of the neighbourhood.
