The Riga Motor Museum is one of the best car museums in the Baltic states, with a collection that goes well beyond the usual parade of polished vehicles. The centrepiece is a remarkable hall of Soviet-era cars: state limousines, military vehicles, and the personal cars of Communist leaders, including a ZIL belonging to Brezhnev and a Rolls-Royce used by the Latvian head of state.
The museum is out of the centre — take a taxi or bus 21 from Brīvības iela to the Pansionāts stop in Mežciems — but enthusiasts and anyone curious about Soviet history will find it worth the detour. A newer wing covers the broader history of the automobile. Allow about two hours.
