St. Jacob's Barracks stands by one of the clearest surviving stretches of Riga's old city wall. The barracks themselves now hold shops and restaurants, but the reason to stop here is the medieval wall, which gives a compact sense of how fortified Old Riga once was.
It is an easy add-on while walking between the Swedish Gate, the Powder Tower, and St. Jacob's Cathedral.
