St Peter's Church (Sv. Pētera baznīca) is the tallest structure in the Old Town and the defining landmark of the Riga skyline. The Gothic church dates to the 15th century, though it has been rebuilt repeatedly — the current spire is a post-war reconstruction from 1973, fitted with a viewing gallery at 72 metres.
The gallery is the main reason most visitors go in — the view over the Old Town, the Daugava river, and the Art Nouveau roofscapes beyond is the best in the city. An elevator runs to the top. The church interior hosts occasional concerts and art exhibitions rather than regular services.
