Annunciation Cathedral

The Annunciation Cathedral inside the Kremlin is the senior Russian Orthodox church of the city, built between 1555 and 1562 by the same Pskovian architects responsible for parts of St Basil's in Moscow. The white-walled cathedral with five blue-and-gold cupolas is one of the oldest surviving stone buildings in Kazan.

The interior is fully decorated in 16th- to 19th-century frescoes, restored after Soviet-era closure. There is a small museum in the crypt covering the cathedral's history and the relics it has held. Free admission to the church; modest fee for the museum. Modest dress and head covering for women are expected.
