Kremlin District

The Kremlin District covers the UNESCO citadel itself and the few blocks immediately around it — the area below the southern wall that includes the National Museum and the Hermitage Centre, and the embankment to the north. Most of Kazan's headline sights are here.

The whole district is walkable. The main visitor approach is from the south through the Spasskaya Gate; the most photogenic approach is from the new pedestrian embankment along the Kazanka, which gives the classic view of the white walls and turquoise domes from below.
