The Soviet Lifestyle Museum, in a basement under a courtyard off Bauman Street, is a dense, charmingly chaotic private collection of 1970s and 1980s domestic Soviet objects — radios, televisions, tinned-food packaging, school exercise books, Pioneer scarves, posters, plastic toys, vodka bottles, the whole texture of late-Soviet life.
You can pick up many of the objects, sit at a Soviet desk, and pose with a 1980s record player. The curator usually walks visitors through the highlights in patchy English. Modest entry fee. An hour is plenty; an unexpected highlight for anyone old enough to remember the 1980s.
