Capitol Hill is the elevated neighbourhood northwest of Temple Square, rising toward the Utah State Capitol building at its crest. The streets between Temple Square and the Capitol are lined with some of the city's finest Victorian architecture — the mansions built by the LDS church hierarchy and the mining magnates of the late nineteenth century crowd South Temple Street with remarkable density.
The walk up State Street from downtown to the Capitol passes the Beehive House, Lion House, Eagle Gate, and the Cathedral of the Madeleine, then climbs through the residential streets to the Capitol grounds. The views from the Capitol steps south over the entire city are among the best in Salt Lake.
