The Gateway

Address 400 West 100 South

The Gateway, an open-air mixed-use development between 200 South and North Temple, opened in 2001 around the restored Union Pacific Railroad station. The complex stretches several blocks and combines shopping, restaurants, the Clark Planetarium, Discovery Gateway children's museum, and apartments.

The retail mix has evolved away from traditional mall tenants toward entertainment, restaurants, and lifestyle stores. The exterior plazas, restored fountains, and the imposing Union Pacific facade (built in 1909 as the western terminus of the Pacific railroad) make it a pleasant walk-through even outside store hours. A daily lighted fountain show runs in summer.
