9th and 9th

The intersection of 9th East and 9th South gives its name to one of Salt Lake City's most appealing neighbourhoods: a dense block of independent restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and the Tower Theatre, all clustered within a few blocks. The residential streets surrounding it are lined with modest early twentieth-century bungalows and good trees.

This is Salt Lake City's version of a bohemian neighbourhood — which in context means cafes that stay open late, a yoga studio or two, and more secondhand bookshops than anywhere else in the valley. It is a 20-minute walk or short bus ride from Temple Square, and makes a good contrast to the LDS-dominated historic centre.
