Pioneer Park

Address 350 South 300 West

Pioneer Park, a full city block immediately west of downtown, is the original fort site where the first Mormon settlers wintered over in 1847-48. The current park is mostly grass and ringed by mature cottonwoods, with a small playground and the historic Pioneer Fort marker on the eastern edge.

From June through October, Pioneer Park hosts the Downtown Farmers Market on Saturday mornings — one of the best big-city farmers markets in the western US, with around 200 vendors of produce, prepared food, and crafts. The Twilight Concert Series often uses the park as an alternate venue. Outside event days the park has historically attracted a homeless population; the city has been working to balance social services with park use.
