The Granary District is Salt Lake City's arts and warehouse neighbourhood, occupying the blocks south and west of downtown near the old Union Pacific tracks. Former industrial buildings have been converted into galleries, music venues, breweries, and studios, and the area has attracted the creative businesses that downtown proper prices out.
The Utah State History Museum anchors the east end of the district. Further west, the neighbourhood becomes progressively grittier and more interesting, with independent coffee roasters, natural wine bars, and art galleries mixed among working warehouses. The SLC Punk scene that made the city briefly famous in the 1980s and 1990s has some of its roots here.
