Shenzhen's Civic Center is the symbolic heart of the city — a vast government complex in Futian District whose sweeping wing-shaped roof has become as recognisable as the Ping An Finance Centre on the skyline. The building houses the Shenzhen Municipal Government offices and the People's Assembly Hall, and sits at the axis of the city's planned civic spine.
The plaza in front of the Civic Center is enormous and well maintained, with fountains, gardens, and public art installations. The Shenzhen Museum and its contemporary art annexe flank the complex, and Lianhuashan Park rises directly to the north — making the whole area a coherent cultural and civic district that feels deliberately planned as such.
The Civic Center is particularly impressive at night when the wing-shaped roof is illuminated. The Civic Center metro station (Lines 2 and 4) is directly adjacent.
