Splendid China Folk Culture Villages

Splendid China Folk Culture Villages sits alongside Window of the World in the Nanshan District's tourist zone and takes a different approach: instead of the world's landmarks, it miniaturises and recreates China's own. The park contains scaled-down reproductions of the Great Wall, the Potala Palace, the Forbidden City, the Li River, and dozens of other Chinese sites, all set in landscaped grounds.

The Folk Culture Villages section adds reconstructed villages representing China's 56 recognized ethnic minority groups, with daily performances of traditional music, dance, and crafts. The shows are broad and aimed at domestic tourists, but they give a genuine sense of the country's ethnic diversity.

The two parks share an entrance area and are often visited together. Entry is ticketed; combination deals are available. The metro station (Window of the World station, Lines 1 and 6) serves both.

A story
The park was built in 1991, before Window of the World opened next door, and its original concept was specifically Chinese: a collection of miniature reproductions of the country's own landmarks, from the Great Wall to the Potala Palace, intended for Chinese visitors who might never travel to see the originals. Folk Culture Villages was added to the complex in 1994, bringing ethnic minority performances and village reconstructions to the site.
