Mangrove Ecological Park protects a strip of coastal wetland on Shenzhen Bay, where migratory birds rest between the city and Hong Kong's Mai Po marshes. It is one of the easier places in central Shenzhen to see the bay's natural side: mangrove roots, mudflats, boardwalks, and waterbirds instead of towers and shopping malls.
The park is best in the cooler months, when migration brings more birds through the Pearl River Delta. Bring binoculars if you have them, and go early or late in the day for quieter paths.
