Ganden-ji is a hillside Buddhist temple associated with the Bandō 33 Kannon pilgrimage. Founded in the 8th century, it is dedicated to Kannon and has a quieter setting than Kamakura's best-known temple precincts.
It is best for travellers who are already exploring Kamakura's smaller temples or following pilgrimage sites, rather than for a rushed first visit focused only on the main shrines.
