Yuigahama Beach

Kamakura's main beach, a broad sweep of grey-brown sand facing Sagami Bay, is popular with Tokyo surfers and summer swimmers from July through early September. The beach promenade has a relaxed local feel quite different from the temple circuit. On clear winter days the view south-west across the bay to Mount Fuji is outstanding.

The Enoden railway runs close to the water's edge near here, and the sound of the tram and the sound of the waves often overlap. The beach is free; rentals for surfboards and beach equipment are available in summer.
