Kamakura Museum of Literature

A small museum dedicated to the many writers who lived or worked in Kamakura during the 20th century. The building is itself a landmark — a handsome early Showa-period Western-style villa that once belonged to the Maeda family. The museum documents the literary colony that flourished here from the 1900s through the postwar period: authors including Kawabata Yasunari, Kinoshita Mokutaro, and Dazai Osamu all had Kamakura connections.

The garden around the villa is lovely, and the sea-view terrace is one of the better quiet spots in the city. Located a short walk from Hase Station on the Enoden. Admission around 300 yen.
