The Sultan's ceremonial palace in Old Muscat, flanked by the Portuguese-built Al Jalali and Al Mirani forts on either side of the bay. The palace itself isn't open to the public, but the plaza in front of it — paved in marble and watched over by gold-and-blue columned facades — is open for photographs. A short walk from the National Museum and the two flanking forts.
