Royal Opera House Muscat

Sultan Qaboos's marble opera house with daytime tours

Opened in 2011, the Royal Opera House was a personal project of the late Sultan Qaboos, a keen classical music fan. The building, clad in pale Omani marble and trimmed with latticed woodwork, hosts opera, ballet, and Arabic music performances during the season (roughly September to May). Daytime tours run when there's no performance. The attached Opera Galleria has restaurants and cafés that face a landscaped plaza.
