Bawshar Fort

Bawshar Fort is a ruined mud-brick fortress on the inland side of Muscat, with scattered walls and archaeological remains spread around the hills behind it. The setting is part of the appeal: the fort rises from a dry, open landscape rather than a polished heritage precinct.

It is best for travellers who like rougher historic sites and do not mind limited interpretation. The fort, rampart remains, and nearby prehistoric graves make it a different kind of Muscat stop from the city's mosques, museums, and souk.
