Qurum

Qurum is a residential and leisure district west of central Muscat, built around a long sandy beach and a natural park of mangroves and tidal creek. The beach — Qurum Beach — stretches for several kilometres and is one of the better city beaches in the Gulf, relatively clean and accessible without requiring a hotel key. The Qurum Natural Park behind the beach is an unexpected patch of green in the middle of the city, with walking paths through cultivated gardens and the mangrove channel beyond.

The neighbourhood itself is prosperous and quiet, with good restaurants, cafes, and the Muscat City Centre mall for anyone who needs air-conditioned retail. The National Museum and the Sultan's Armed Forces Museum are in the broader Qurum area. In the evenings, the corniche walk from Qurum toward the fishing harbour at Shatti al-Qurum is pleasant — the lights of the coast and the breeze off the Gulf make it one of the more agreeable evening walks in the city.
