Sultan's Armed Forces Museum

Military museum in Bait al-Falaj Fort tracing Omani campaigns and uniforms

Sultan's Armed Forces Museum occupies Bait al-Falaj Fort, a 19th-century stronghold that once guarded the inland approach to Muscat. Inside, the galleries move through Oman's military history with uniforms, weapons, maps, medals, and displays on the modern armed forces.

The setting is half the appeal. The fort's thick walls and parade-ground atmosphere make the collection feel less abstract, and it fills in a part of Omani history that the grand mosque and Muttrah waterfront do not cover. Expect a formal, old-school museum rather than a flashy interactive one.
