The Old Souq Watchtower is a small defensive tower above Mutrah, one of the reminders that Muscat's harbour was once watched from every rocky rise. The climb is short, and the reward is a clean view over the corniche, the bay, and the tight commercial lanes around Mutrah Souq.
It works best at the beginning or end of a souq visit, especially in the softer light outside the middle of the day. The tower is modest, but the view helps make sense of old Muscat's relationship with the sea.
