Martyrs' Cemetery (Varrezat e Dëshmorëve)

A communist-era memorial cemetery on a hill above the city's eastern edge, where partisans killed in World War II are buried. The site is dominated by a colossal statue of Mother Albania (Nëna Shqipëri), her sword raised over the rows of identical white headstones.

The cemetery is a sobering place, and the view back over Tirana from the hilltop is one of the best in the city. Easily walked or driven; allow an hour.
