Tanners' Bridge

A small, single-arched Ottoman bridge from the eighteenth century, now stranded on a patch of grass after the river it once crossed was rerouted into a culvert. It was built to bring cattle into the tanners' bazaar that gave it its name, and is the oldest surviving piece of urban infrastructure in central Tirana.

Five minutes is enough. It pairs naturally with the Sulejman Pasha and Kapllan Pasha tombs nearby on a short Ottoman-heritage walking route.

A story
The Lana river that the bridge once spanned has long been diverted underground, leaving the Ottoman stone arch beached on a small lawn between modern buildings. It is one of the very few visible pieces of Ottoman-era Tirana that survived the communist demolitions.
