6th May Park and Dolphinarium

Batumi's oldest park with a lake, zoo, and dolphin shows

Named after the day of the revolution in Adjara, 6 May Park was conceived in 1881 by Smekalov, then Governor of the city. The park is built around Nurie Lake — once a swamp, drained and landscaped into the city's first public garden. Over the decades it gained a zoo, an aquarium, and the Batumi Dolphinarium, founded in 1974. The dolphinarium closed for a period but was revived in 2007 when the government of Adjara brought in six young dolphins. It remains one of the more unusual attractions in the city centre.
