Mtirala National Park, established in 2001, covers 16,000 hectares of dense Colchic forest on the Kobuleti-Chakvi Ridge east of Batumi. The name means "crying mountain" — the park receives extraordinary rainfall, keeping the forest lush and atmospheric year-round. Trails wind through centenarian oaks, chestnuts, and box-trees. The highest peaks exceed 1700 metres. The park has two visitor centres — one in Chakvi town, one in Chakvistskali village — with guided trails, accommodation facilities, and hiking equipment rental. It is one of the better-organised ecotourism areas in Georgia.
